BrainLog is proud to highlight the publication of “A Case for Health-Centred Justice in Europe” by RESCALED, released on 10 October 2025. The article draws on national profiles developed by partners of the RESIZE Project — Reshaping Correctional Competencies through RESCALED Innovation: for current and future workforce adaptation based on profiles of competencies, recognition of prior learning and micro-credentials, in which BrainLog is an active contributor.
The RESIZE Project is funded under the Erasmus+ Programme (ERASMUS-EDU-2024-PI-ALL-INNO, Project No. 101187391) and implemented within Pact No. 248 LiberateSkills — A Lifelong Learning European Pact for Correctional Excellence. Bringing together a strong European consortium of correctional, educational, and innovation partners, the project aims to reshape professional competencies and promote a more human-centred approach in correctional systems across Europe.

Health as the Foundation of Justice
The publication underscores a growing consensus across Europe: justice systems can only be truly effective when they safeguard the health and wellbeing of those within them. People in detention often face complex physical and mental-health challenges, frequently linked to trauma, poverty, and social exclusion. A justice model that prioritises health and rehabilitation—rather than punishment alone—can foster reintegration and reduce reoffending.
Towards Humane and Sustainable Detention
The article presents a clear vision of what a health-centred justice system could look like: smaller, community-integrated facilities, continuity of healthcare during and after detention, and stronger collaboration between health and justice sectors. This approach strengthens both individual outcomes and societal wellbeing.
BrainLog’s Perspective
At BrainLog, we fully support the shift towards a health-centred justice model. Through our work in the RESIZE project and beyond, we are committed to advancing research, capacity building, and evidence-based practices that enhance the wellbeing of people in detention and contribute to more humane correctional systems across Europe.
The publication by RESCALED marks an important milestone in this shared European effort. We thank our RESIZE partners for their valuable collaboration and reaffirm BrainLog’s commitment to creating justice systems rooted in dignity, care, and rehabilitation.
